On April 23, 2023, Chemours organized a clean-up campaign at their sites in Mechelen and Kallo. In Mechelen, we were assisted by students from the 1st grade of TSM. The initiative is part of the "Earth Month" and demonstrates the commitment of both parties to contribute to the environment locally.
During the month of April, we organized several initiatives to raise awareness among our employees about sustainability and environmentally conscious behavior. These are values deeply rooted in our company culture. We are determined to green the chemical sector. Our products and applications already play a crucial role in the digital and green transformation of our society, and we have an ambitious plan globally to reduce our emissions, such as achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. But we also strive to act as environmentally conscious as possible as employees in Belgium.
Activities included a CO2 reduction challenge and sharing practical tips to minimize environmental impact. Additionally, responsible e-waste management was promoted by recycling smartphones among employees. One of the highlights was the ‘Mooimakers’ clean-up campaign held together with the students of TSM.
"We have an active collaboration with TSM through the ChemFest program that promotes STEM education," says Bernard Delhaye, Country Leader of Chemours Belgium. "It's great to involve enthusiastic students in such initiatives." Marc Steemans, pedagogical director of TSM, adds: "We strongly advocate for more collaboration between companies and educational institutions. It helps our students better understand what STEM entails and opens their eyes to the possibilities. Chemours sometimes supports us during school days, so we are happy to lend a hand today."
